British model Lily Cole has teamed up with Project Literacy to back the Alphabet of Illiteracy campaign, calling on MPs to urgently tackle the global illiteracy crisis, with the UN estimating that 781 million people aged 15 or over are illiterate.
The Alphabet of Illiteracy uses each letter of the alphabet to highlight an issue that could be tackled if literacy was improved, such as 'A is for AIDS', 'B is for Bloodshed', 'C is for Child Brides', and so on. Cole said 'We need to put illiteracy more central to our thinking. I'm not pretending I have the solution to the problems. I'm trying to raise awareness and make people think about illiteracy in a more comprehensive way'.
